Accreditation and Regulation
Its a jungle out there!
Are they out to get you...
or just keep you safe?
Who knows, but we all have an opinion!

Accreditation is a way of demonstrating your level of competence as a counsellor and an effective way of showing that you are providing a standard of counselling worthy of your Christian calling - God's standard of excellence. Accreditation is achieved by meeting requirements for training, supervised experience, case studies and references. The application process can be time-consuming but it is something that reflects the importance of your attainment and it is imperative to raise the profile of Christians in this most important ministry of counselling. Becoming an accredited member will not only raise this profile but will enhance your credibility as a counsellor both in the church and in the secular community. Even more vitally, it will help you to know the limits of your competence and ensure the safety of your clients. This is the ACC opinion from the website.
But others see it differently, there are those who quote other regulated professions and their offenders one example being Dr Shipley. Probably one of the biggest 'hot topics' for disagreement is the idea of control by a higher authority, say government. And while the requirements for joining could be defined and standardised this could hardly be made uniform in the way each practitioner works, even less so in the way clients act or behave.
